CCCU North Holmes Road

A logistically complex £4.5m refurbishment and renewal project undertaken in a demanding 14-week timescale.

The project included extensive remodelling of both internal and external spaces on the main campus at North Holmes Road Canterbury to improve way finding around the densely populated site for 17,000 students and 2,000 staff.

The learning experience of students has been significantly enhanced through the introduction of natural lighting and ventilation and a substantial upgrade of existing mechanical and electrical services while transforming the former library space to provide additional lecture theatres, seminar rooms, bookshop, café and catering facilities, laboratories, WC and shower rooms.

The North Holmes Road Campus redevelopment demonstrates our ability to programme, resource, manage and successfully complete a high value project in a demanding timescale, completed during the University’s summer recess. The logistics of the project were further constrained by a requirement to accommodate summer student attendance on the campus.

Our knowledge of the University and experience of previous collaborative working with them greatly assisted in preparing the construction phase programme which incorporated five sectional completion dates during the 14 week duration. Over 30% of subcontractors spend was captured within a 4 mile radius of the site.
